Local Asphalt Liverpool, a trading name of Cemex UK Materials, initially contacted North Dean Engineering when problems arose on their existing machine. The centre shaft had issues and severe cracking to the side plates on the non-drive side had occurred.
Having had work undertaken by local engineers on the existing screen, North Dean Engineering offered a long term solution to safeguard the affected sales, due to the down time of the plant. The site at Huyton produces some 36,000 tons of saleable asphalt a year, which is mainly supplied to local markets. North Dean Engineering were chosen as the preferred supplier to design, manufacture and install a new 4M x 1.5M 2-Deck Vibrating Hot Screen. The screen was supplied complete with a pioneering precision engineered shaft assembly designed to be reliable and efficient. This is important for hot screen applications, where temperatures can reach a scorching 220oC and is particularly beneficial with recycled material.
The new screen was supplied to match the existing footprint of the old, which eliminated any costly modifications to feed, discharge and collection bunks. With the installation only taking 2 days, this again caused minimal disruption to production. Site Manager, Frank Kehoe of Cemex said; ‘we chose North Dean Engineering to supply the new screen following internal discussions within the Cemex group. It seemed that they have an increasing presence within the industry and knowing you are dealing direct with the manufacturer cuts out any middle man’.
